Earth Day is almost here, and with it comes a celebration of the sustainable benefits of second-hand shopping.

Recycling vintage clothing is the perfect match for a healthy, happy, and sustainable planet and here at Restated Vintage we embrace this philosophy, which is why we believe Earth Day should be celebrated every day.

FAST FASHION

You may already be aware that fast fashion and our planet have a rocky relationship. But what are the facts? Lately we’ve seen a surge in awareness on the impact fast fashion has on our planet, so let’s pull out the microscope and take a dive into the damage it is causing.

THE FACTS

 

  • The manufacturing of new garments contributes more to the warming of our planet than both international aviation and shipping combined. Considering all new garments are usually shipped by sea or air freight to their destination, combine these two sectors and the impact on our environment is monumental.

 

  • It takes an estimated 20,000L of water to make just one pair of jeans or a t-shirt.

 

  • Over two thirds of textiles are made from materials derived from fossil fuels.

 

  • And to top it off, over 150 BILLION new garments are made every year and catastrophic costs to our planet, most of which are low quality, fast fashion items which won’t last more than a few years at most, meaning they can’t be recycled either.

All this sounds overwhelming, so we’ve decided the best way to celebrate the 200,000+ items we’ve recycled since 2018 is to release a limited-edition range of high quality, sustainably made garments in which profits will be used to aid causes close to our hearts, and yours.
